Keyboard Tips and Tricks. # 1

[Some will work with other versions of Windows® as well.]

Have you ever wondered what those extra keys can do on your keyboard?
Here is a list of some handy uses for them.

* These Key codes are for Outlook Express 5.0 through 6.0

Press: Function:
CTRL + A Select All
CTRL + C Copy
CTRL + D Delete a Mail Message *
CTRL + ENTER Mark a Message as “Read” *
CTRL + F Forward a message *
CTRL + I Go to your Inbox *
CTRL + K Check Names *
CTRL + L Show/Hide the folder list *
CTRL + M Send and Receive Mail *
CTRL + N Open a new message *
CTRL + O Open a selected message *
CTRL + P Print
CTRL + Q Mark a message as Read *
CTRL + R Reply to sender of a message *
CTRL + SHIFT+ < Go to the previous message in the list *
CTRL + SHIFT + > Go to the next message in the list *
CTRL + SHIFT + F Find text *
CTRL + SHIFT + R Reply to All *
CTRL + SHIFT + S Insert signature in mail message *
CTRL + U Go to the next unopened message *
CTRL + X Cut
CTRL + V Paste
CTRL + Z Undo
CTRL + RIGHT ARROW Move the insertion point to the beginning of the next word
CTRL + LEFT ARROW Move the insertion point to the beginning of the previous word
CTRL + DOWN ARROW Move the insertion point to the beginning of the next paragraph
CTRL + UP ARROW Move the insertion point to the beginning of the previous paragraph
CTRL +SHIFT with either the UP or DOWN arrow keys Highlight a block of text
CTRL + F4 Close the active document in programs that allow you to have multiple documents open simultaneously
CTRL + ESC Displays the Start Menu
CTRL + SHIFT while dragging an Item Create a shortcut to the selected item
CTRL while dragging an item Copy the selected item
CTRL + TAB To move forward through tabs
CTRL + SHIFT + TAB To move backwards through tabs
TAB To move forward through options
SHIFT + TAB To move backward through options
F1 Opens the current application’s Help File
F2 Rename a file
F3 Open Search
F5 Refresh
F7 Spell Checker (in Office Apps; Outlook and Outlook Express)
F11 Full Screen mode [extra tip to Close Full Screen Go F11 again]

SHIFT + Delete Deletes a file without sending it to the Recycle Bin
Windows® Key Opens the Start Menu.
Windows® Key + D Opens the Windows Desktop.
Windows® Key + M Minimises all Windows.
Shift + Windows® Key + M Reverses the Minimisation.
Windows® Key + Tab Switch between applications.
Windows® Key + E Opens “My Computer.”
Windows® Key + F1 Opens Windows Help and Support.
Windows® Key + F Starts a Search
Windows® Key + R Opens the “Run” Dialog Box.

Ctrl + Alt+ Del Opens the Task Manager
Ctrl + Shift + Esc An alternative to Open the Task Manager

These are only a few commonly used Keyboard shortcuts
